On Tuesday, July 24, 2018, Cardinal Capital joined development and investment partners to celebrate the grand opening of Journey Home, a 30-unit permanent supportive housing project for homeless families and individuals.
Journey Home first opened its doors in June, and within 72 hours each apartment had been leased. Located at 250 Justice Center Road, the 3-story development is the first homeless housing project built in a rural Colorado community. Combining housing with access to support services, Journey Home also connects residents with case management, mental health treatment and vocational training.
Journey Home has received an outpouring amount of support from the community. A local team put together a wish list of items they felt would help residents settle into their new home and within four days all apartments had been adopted. Members of the community hosted a benefit concert, as well as donated a barbecue grill, exercise equipment, computers for the computer lab, children’s toys and books, local artwork and a quilt for each apartment. In addition, a volunteer cleaned 20 of the 30 apartments in preparation for move-in day.
Journey Home is the result of a unique partnership between Cardinal Capital and Loaves & Fishes Ministries of Fremont County.
